About Split PDF
Sometimes only part of a document is wanted: pages 1–3 of a contract, one chapter of a manual, or a 200-page report cut into pieces small enough to email. Name the pages you want, or set a maximum size per part and let it work out the page boundaries for you.

Questions
- How do I write the page ranges?
- Ranges are inclusive and comma-separated: 1-3, 8, 12-15. Leave the end open with 5- to run from page 5 to the last page, or the start open with -4 for the first four. Pages come out in the order you write them, so 5,1 puts page 5 first.
- What is the difference between “one file per range” and “keep chosen pages in one file”?
- With 1-3, 8 the first option gives you two PDFs — one holding pages 1 to 3, one holding page 8. The second gives you a single four-page PDF containing all of them.
- Does splitting change the pages themselves?
- No. Each part is built by copying the selected pages into a new document, so text stays text and images keep their resolution. The parts together are usually slightly larger than the original because shared resources such as embedded fonts get copied into each one.
- I only want to throw a few pages away, not split anything.
- Use Remove pages instead — it keeps everything you do not name in a single output file, which is fewer steps for that job.
- How do I split a PDF to fit an email limit?
- Choose “Maximum file size per part” and type the limit, such as 2 MB. Page sizes are not additive — a part’s size depends on which fonts and images its pages happen to share — so each candidate part is actually written and measured rather than estimated. If a single page is over the limit on its own it becomes its own part and the tool says so, because splitting cannot shrink one page: use Compress PDF for that.
- Is splitting a PDF here completely free?
